DOT-certified protection
Full-face and three-quarter helmets are acceptable when they meet DOT certification and are in good working condition. Personal helmets are subject to inspection. Half helmets are not accepted.
Prepare for class
Required Motorcycle Riding Gear
All students must meet curriculum and State of Florida safety-equipment requirements before participating in any riding activity.
No exceptions: students cannot participate in riding activities without all required gear. Your registration confirmation remains the final checklist for your course and location.
Eye protection
Wear a face shield, goggles, sunglasses, safety glasses, or prescription glasses. Eye protection used during night training must be clear.
Long sleeves
Wear a long-sleeve shirt or jacket that reaches the wrists. Choose weather-appropriate material that also provides useful abrasion protection.
Full-length pants
Pants must reach the foot and have no holes. Denim or leather is preferred. Dress slacks, spandex, cotton leggings, and sweatpants are not permitted.
Full-fingered gloves
Gloves must fully cover the fingers, back of the hand, and knuckles. Use motorcycle-specific gloves or sturdy leather gloves; thin household or stretch work gloves are not accepted.
Over-the-ankle footwear
Footwear must completely cover and encase the ankle above the ankle bone, have little or no heel, and have a sturdy traction sole. Thin cloth or canvas shoes are not accepted.
Rain or shine
Prepare for Florida weather.
Bring sunscreen, rain gear, weather-appropriate layers, water, and a change of clothes when conditions may require them. Classes commonly continue in rain unless conditions become unsafe.
